The Spindrift Saga will be appearing at Club Sapphire on Friday 1st September. This is a FREE SHOW. Doors will open at 8pm. This is an 18+ event.
The Spindrift Saga are an independent Australian act renowned for their tight live shows, “catchy rhythms, bright licks” and big alt funk rock sound. The last year The Spindrift Saga have toured extensively supporting the likes of Thirsty Merc, The Ruben’s and other music industry heavyweights. The band’s latest full length record “Badnormous” has received significant airplay around the country and is considered a masterpiece that has cemented The Spindrift Saga’s unique place in the alternative rock scene. The band’s new tongue in cheek single “Batsh!t Bay” was released late last year and the band is currently on their “Summer Tour” playing a number of shows around NSW and beyond. Further tours will be announced for this year, including the band’s first international dates and new music is expected to be released over 2017 as well.
The Spindrift Saga hails from the sleepy South Coast of New South Wales and features a formidable lineup of talented musicians. Chris McGrath, Mick McGrath, Danny Freeman and Dave Tweedie all come loaded with Bachelor of Contemporary Music degrees and have spent their lifetimes refining their craft. The quartet are known for their incredibly engaging high energy live shows and attention to musical detail. Throughout 2015/16, The Spindrift Saga supported Thirsty Merc on several occasions, as well as landing main supports for The Ruben’s, British India, Alpine, Maxi Priest (US #1 charting artist), Altyian Childs (X-Factor winner), Hockey Dad, The Strides and many more.
With comparisons already being drawn to the music industries alternative heavyweights, “these lads have crafted a truly unique sound best described as electrifying”. The Spindrift Saga is a head-turning power quartet with musical ‘chops’ to burn and the band covers an enormous diversity of styles in their performances. Influenced heavily by funk music, The Spindrift Saga welds this syncopated groove element seamlessly into their rock roots. The result is a sound regularly likened to acts such as The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Living End, Soundgarden, Incubus and other industry frontrunners. The band’s full length album release ‘Badnormous’ dropped at the start of 2016. In support of the record The Spindrift Saga hit the road for an interstate east coast tour from Brisbane to Melbourne filling venues along the way. The band signed to a independent digital distribution deal for the album, which is now available at most major online music outlets. Badnormous was well received by local community radio stations and has been labelled as an important independent rock release. The full length album follows up on The Spindrift Saga’s hugely successful 2014 single ‘Marvin’ and their 2011 EP release ‘300 Hours and Counting’. The Spindrift Saga has 250+ shows under their belts, they have some big plans for the future and some exciting projects underway. According to the band “creative juices are flowing freely at present and the ball is well and truly rolling” for these hard-working, music fuelled machines.
Local band Slipways formed in 2015 playing indie influenced originals with a few rock covers thrown in. Featuring Zack Jenkin on vocals & guitar, Matt Olm on lead guitar and Adam McMaster on drums.The band deliver high energy sets that get the crowd moving.
